Here’s a collection of projects/templates for GameSalad I’ve created to help various GameSalad forum members.
None of the templates are full working games, some of them are quite rough around the edges, and there’s definitely a couple that were only half done, but they helped show how I might do a particular thing in GameSalad, and hopefully helped the people I originally shared them with
Each link will take you to a page with more information, the project files to download should you wish to look at it, and some also include a video showing it in action.
I no longer work with GameSalad so I’m not able to support you if any of these templates fail to work in the latest versions of GameSalad. They’re also all quite old so there may be better ways to do these things.
Basic Bejewelled/Candy Crush Type Game
A project to show the basic mechanics for a game like Bejewelled and Candy Crush. It doesn’t have power ups.
Basic Block Breaker Mechanics
A project to show the basic mechanics for a game like Block Breaker. It was something I accidentally created while working on a Bejewelled template.
Basic Columns Type Game Mechanics
A project to show the basic mechanics for a game like Columns (without the different shapes) and Bejewelled where you have to get 3 of the same colours in the same line. It was created for a member on the GameSalad forum so it was set up as a starting point for them to improve on if they wanted.
A project to show moving cards to and from different slots/holders. This was something I was playing around with for my own project. I decided against certain game mechanics including this one, so didn’t complete it.
Freeze Actor For X Seconds
A project to show how to freeze the motion of an actor for x amount of seconds and then make it continue it’s original direction once the time is up.
A project to show an inventory bar that you can add and remove items to and from. It could be used for a number of different things including, a skill bar, an orders bar, a card game, and a word game etc.
Keep It Up Ball
A project to show how to shoot the ball in the desired direction based on where you tap it i.e. if you tap the ball on the left it would shoot off to the right, and vice versa.
A project to pan the camera around the scene that’s bigger than the device screen.
Someone asked me how to do a vertical and horizontal moving layered background. It’s not something I’d done before but I was quite chuffed it only took about 10 minutes to do and required very little coding. It’s a bit rough but it seems to do what was needed, and gave them a starting point to improve on. There will no doubt be templates online using other methods to achieve this so I recommend you look at those too.
A project to show how to change a speed dial based on the speed stored in an attribute. It uses percentages to work out the angle of the pin. This was created for my own project.
Time Locked Actor
A small project to show how to disable/lock an actor for x amount of seconds. Locking it can disable rules like “if touch is pressed”.
